Essay

The dying classical theatrical art in America is given life by the continuous production of the Light in the Piazza, a musical based in the writing of Craig Lucas. This piece of art has been released first in the early 1950’s and continued up to the current years. What is based in this particular form of musical is that it follows through the current trend in music responding to the determined options of interest from the audience. For instance, it evolves through the generations of viewers being addressed in each presentation. The story’s plot begins with the presentation of popular musical arrangements and followed by classical choices. It could be understood that through this pattern, the musical determines the difference of ages of generations based on musical choices.

Among the most complex productions of this musical in the United States is the one presented through the Lincoln Center Theater. This production was rather considered breathtaking especially in relation to the décor of the entire stage and how it relates to each scene in the story. Getting the attention of the audience through creating mixed-up environments brings in a sense of nostalgia especially for those who know about the setup of the classic American theater. Among the productions presented through the years, it could be understood that the interpretation of Craig Lucas’ story into a classic musical represents the real value of each artistic form of identifying the meaning of the said art.

Putting the presentation in a Broadway setup specifically calls for particular modifications; nevertheless, the modifications were able to highlight the most important sections of the story such as that of the way the uniformity of the symphonic harmony is arranged for the sake of presenting the characters and their value to the storyline. Through effective use of the stage and space, presenters, actors and even the orchestra becomes strongly dependent on the balance and the unison of sound direction. During the whole presentation, each individual seen on stage is given the chance to sing and become a large part of the theatrical value of the show. To represent conditions of confusion in the story, it is evidently effective that the director often redefines the way lighting dances with the music that the orchestra plays. With the overall connection of the actors’ charisma, the good choice of musical arrangements that bring life to the script and the story’s plot, the musical becomes provides a classical distinction on how valuable theater should be appreciated accordingly.

When it comes to the songs brought to life because of the musical, among the most compelling ones were the duets of the loving couples in the story particularly pertaining to Clara and Fabrizio. One of their duets include that of “Say it Somehow” which specifically involves the manner by which both of them try to engulf themselves in the love they feel for each other, while specifically hindering themselves from showing what emotional attraction they have towards each other. Another duet is that of Margaret and Clara’s “Hysteria” which defines a distinct point of confusion. Showcasing the voices of the actors, these songs add so much value to the overall treatment of the story written by Lucas.

Overall, the musical piece is a distinct platform for classical and popular music performers to come together to give life to a classical story that identifies well with the American culture. Watching this musical brings back the history of what good American theatrical art was all about. It brings about a sense of realization among the audience and the performers themselves how it is like to specifically understand and become a part of something authentically American in form. This musical is a distinct and valuable presentation of what real American art is about.
