Essay

One of the crucial elements in studying in a bilingual environment it practice. In this regard, since English is not the mother tongue in the Saudi Arabia and students have diverse levels of proficiency in the English language, they require a systematic approach to its study and implementation. While the spoken English can be learned through English tutorial and preparation for them, academic written English requires a separate attention and tutor’s guidance (Greene and Lidinsky 128).   The primary necessity of composition classes at Al Fasal University is that they will teach and help students to advance their writing skills, grammar, and stylistics. It will also teach them how to write different kinds of academic papers of various levels and logical structure. Students will receive an opportunity to learn how to write essays, research papers, reports according to the academic standards and research requirements specific to each field of studied (Bailey 45).

Furthermore, since there are various formatting and referencing styles in writing academic research, students often have problems in complying with them often mixing one with another. Thus, the introduction of systematic composition courses would teach students how to craft their academic papers to the requirement of various referencing styles (Bailey 67). In a long run, these practice would result in the improvement of students’ writing skills, the level of Academic English and  the quality of academic papers and a more efficient and productive contribution to the academic knowledge. In other words, the academic profile of the University will increase.
