Physicians in Health Care Management: The Patient-Physician Partnership

This article explores the literature on the issue of the extent the patients want to be involved in the process of decisions making about their health care. The writer proposes a difference between two factors of choice, i.e.  problem solving and decision making. This difference assists in determining the suitable roles for health care provider and patient, therefore directing to honest and shared decision making.

The article starts with describing the role of what the patient play or wants to play in their health care. Then this article goes on defining the different roles by discussing the roles given in previous published articles and concerning to this the literature on this issue has been discussed as well. In Literature review the views of different authors has been provided that conducted researches in different timing by surveying the people. These studies suggest that number of patients want to share their views in decision making.

After providing the literature review the characteristics of patients involved in decision making process of their treatment has been discussed. This section provided that there is also evidence of empirical approach that well educated  patients wish a great extent of involvement in selecting their treatment plan than illiterate or less educated patients. This evidence has also been given that people with critical illnesses may wish not to be included in their medical care decision making process; the doctors or health care provider needs to set the treatment plan themselves.

In the end, the article provided that whether the health care provider knows that what their patients want? It discusses the different types of barriers that patients create at the time of treatment and selecting their health care plan. The article conclude the over situation by stating that many patients desire to have experts opinion about their health care issue problem solving but most patients wish to have an active role in decision making.
