The Post of Solomon Tia, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 257

Essay

The post of Solomon Tia is interesting in terms of presenting the idealized, formal depiction of children and child abuse in the US official documents and legal papers. The issue of child abuse is formally tackled by means of defining all types of child abuse, and defining the measures of punishment for violating the fundamental human rights of any child. The responsibilities of parents and foster families are also clearly laid out in the official documents; however, the legal vision of child abuse and non-abuse is not always compliant with the harsh reality in which child abuse can be conducted at the emotional, psychological, and moral level. The common vision of child abuse as a violent act accompanied with aggression and reflected in bruises, blood, and bone fractures is an inappropriate approach to proactive management of the child abuse threat.

Parents are entitled to provide children with food, shelter, proper education, healthcare, etc. However, no document indicates the ways in which parents speak to their children, the warmth or cruelty with which they accuse children of breaking toys or tearing some clothes, as well as the psychological intimidation and threats that parents can apply to children, thus making them quiet, passive, and shattered as personalities. Hence, the struggle against child abuse should stretch much farther than the legal condemnation of violent actions against children; it should encompass the rich, in-depth vision of what a child needs for healthy and harmonious development, and what parents may intentionally deprive children of, creating the unfavorable environment for their growth and development.
