The Proper Ways to Communicate With the Professor, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 525

Essay

Overview

This memo is about the proper ways to communicate with the professor. It includes contacting the professor through webcampus mail (the preferential way to communicate with the professor). The memo also includes a schedule, how to prepare for the class and stay on top of readings and writings, as well as what style of writing business writing is, and how it’s different than other styles of writing.

Context

The introductions’ rhetorical questions seemed to revolve around skill sets. It is difficult to define someone’s skill set, so it seemed that the introduction was asking each writer to perform different reflective exercises. Such exercises benefited not only the strength of the paper and its focus, but also the strength of character for the writer. In order to commit to a skill set, a writer must also recognize personal qualities that they’re good at, and then own that recognition.

Writing this section I thought about my audience (my peers). I tried to make sure that what I was saying would translate well for them; thus, succinctness and clarity were my goals in this writing exercise.

Documents

I think the main difference between a personal profile and a formal introduction is the amount of personality in each one. I believe an introduction is more business-like while a personal profile is more about bringing individuality to the page. The formal introduction pointed to skills I thought my teammates would require me to have, or one’s that I wanted to highlight in order to showcase things that I perceived myself to be good at while the personal profile contained more information about who I am as a person (more cerebral/abstract concepts) as opposed to things I’m willing to do, or good at doing.

The formal introduction delineated into different points (thoroughness, tenacity, follow-through); things that gave credit to my being a part of a group. While the personal profile highlighted things that were more important to my humanity as it were, or my over-all character disposition.

Production

In order to get to my final introduction I had to do quite a bit of personal analysis. I had to sit in a room alone without distractions and really think about skills that I’m good at that a team would benefit from having from one of its members, as well as think about what my peers would expect from you. I tried to contribute both my skills as well as anticipate what the team would need from me, and incorporate both in my introduction.

The personal profile was easier to write because it was a little more loose in its writing. There was less analysis (not to say that there wasn’t any analysis) but there was more thought put into the piece.

Conclusion

I feel like I met the project and case objectives by being forthright in my answers. I gave not only my strengths but my weaknesses (for both projects). I think this honesty serves as proper communication because I want my team to know what I’m both capable of doing and incapable of doing. Proper communication in both documents was the best avenue for me to take and I think it’s something that I’ll better throughout the coursework for this class.
