The rapid flow of 21st century distracts the authorities as well as ordinary citizens from drawing attention to the issue of becoming addicted. Today, one can see a number of people addicted to various substances as well as activities; a peculiar thing is that apart from all their negative behavioral addictions, they appear to suffer from a social prejudice. To be precise, it is worth saying that the social injustice and addiction emerge to be tightly connected from the perspective of complementing one another. As for this paper, the focus lies in arguing that it is necessary to come to understanding the stories and problems of those citizens struggling with addiction; apparently, the society needs to be concerned about lowering the barriers associated with searching for assistance.
Despite the tremendous breakthrough within the field of different scientific studies, the mankind is still often unable to cope with the issue of overcoming certain addictions; yet, social attitude towards understanding addiction appears to be much more serious factor of numerous failures to escape addiction than the recovery itself. Nowadays, it is possible to witness people striving for help. All in all, it seems that they will not be heard. The thing is that usually even the relatives within today’s society are not interested in saving the members of a family from some addiction; it demonstrates social injustice, which dominates today.
Addiction all over the world has become the burning issue of the 21st century; the United States of America is not an exception. Although, for instance, California is considered as a symbol of vitality, energy and good life, millions of its residents still cannot make the ends meet and, consequently, become addicted to numerous negative social outcomes. The problem is that surrounding citizens are not targeted on reinterpreting their understanding of other people’s problems.
As for such a social problem as addiction, one should become aware that it can refer to all categories of people. At first sight, it might seem that there is nothing wrong with people who become addicted; there can be no vivid signs of being addicted to particular activities; however, these people that one can find walking along the streets, are definitely in need of social support. They often hide the faces, since they are ashamed of what they are doing. There is a number of cases when people lack the strength to get rid of their bad habits. As a result, the society has to be concerned about potentially vulnerable categories of people. To be precise, it is worth admitting that addicts should be given a chance to start from scratch; in other words, modern-day society has to revamp the concept of ignoring disadvantaged masses of people.
To conclude, it is necessary to criticize today’s standards and stereotypes enabling some people to disregard the problems of the others. It is obvious that most people position themselves as the opponents of becoming addicted; regardless of this fact, they do not do absolutely anything in order to support those trapped in their life barriers. It is important to take into consideration the need to revise the approaches to judging the categories of people suffering from various addictions; evidently, it is likely to be the only way to remove the notion of social injustice.
