Pages: 1

Words: 318

Essay

The life and morality of human beings can be dictated by natural law, consequentialism and deontological factors. They all determine what is morally right or wrong to do and under what circumstances. The natural laws involve the conformity of man to actions such as eating or surviving. Consequentialism essentially involves a group of ethical theories that are considered to be normative. This describes or depicts the worth of an action. Deontology is an obligation one has to morality. It judges the morality of an action.

John and Jane have decided to have a baby until when they have both accomplished their objectives in their respective career fields. Unfortunately, she becomes pregnant, and now she is faced by a tricky situation. She has a moral obligation terminating or not terminating the pregnancy. Before she terminates it, she has to consider any effects of termination. For example, will the abortion affect her ability to conceive in the future? In addition, the fetus has a moral right of existence and development. It would be a selfish act to terminate the pregnancy on the foundation of achieving career objectives. She could easily affect her social interaction with John if she goes against his wishes. The fetus has a legal right to grow and develop as long as it does not pose an immediate life threat to the mother. The fetus can have a genetic or defective disease, and in such cases, a moral termination can be considered.

John and Jane are required to talk and discuss the present situation; before termination is considered since, there can be seriously adverse effects of termination. This may include even emotional sickness of the patient. It may also affect the ability of the patient to conceive in the future. Based on the various laws of nature it would be wrong to deny a fetus a chance to grow and develop based on reasons such as career related reasons.
