Character should be taken into account because if an individual is only nice to people who serve a benefit to him or her, then there is a lot to be said about the manner in which he or she would treat other customers or business partners if a conflict should ever arise. Because of this, companies should always consider the kind of individual that they are about to hire as the head of their company.

It is without a doubt that the Waiter Rule presented in the case study works. On that note, ethics and character, which go hand in hand, should be imperative when deciding on who to hire and who not to hire. If someone who is not ethical at all is hired, the firm could get a bad name simply because the head of the company takes certain decisions at the wrong time.

Ultimately, the CEO is the “face” of the company and if he or she give off the appearance and allure of a role model and leader, then the company could potentially fail in the near future. Therefore, companies should always incorporate the Waiter Rule when deciding whether they should hire a certain individual to be the head of their certain company.

There have been numerous instances in my life where I am in a meeting at a restaurant with potential business partners and am appalled by the manner in which they are rude to the waiters simply because they have taken a few extra minutes to bring the food on time. Because of this, I believe that the Waiter Rule is certainly a good manner by which a board can decide who should be CEO of a certain company.
