Essay

The major goal of inmate programs is to provide the inmates with the opportunity to tackle those issues that have contributed to their subsequent incarceration and criminal behavior. During their staying in prison inmates have a chance to participate in a big variety of educational, literacy and therapeutic programs, for it will help them overcome possible obstacles when returning back to the community. Furthermore, there are programs available for inmates upon their release, so they can continue improving. Rehabilitative services are aimed to provide every inmate with a chance to lead successful and productive lives and benefiting the society in the future.

Providing education services, many correction facilities have their own school systems, thus rehabilitating incarcerated felons through training and teaching. It appears that those who pass the education courses in prison are less likely to re-offend in the future. There are also inmate job programs, which teach the responsibility and work ethics in order for inmates to succeed in their temporary occupation. Felons are required to report to their assigned work place and perform all the duties at a scheduled time period. Consequently, there are some pre-release programs that aid the transition period for those who are about to get back in the community. This program involves pre-release coordinators, counselors, and institutional parole and probation officers providing a thorough assistance with pre-release services. There are also chaplains in most of the correction facilities that provide religious services, thus including pastoral counseling, religious literature classes, leading worship services etc. Of course, inmates also have a library where they can get some books to spend their leisure time sufficiently acquiring knowledge and improving education.
