Understanding the Role of Social Issues and Its Impact on the Result of Elections, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 413

Essay

Most of the time, election results end up as a reflective condition by which the society recognizes the stand of the candidates in consideration with particular issues that conform the nation at the current time. These issues often include economic stability, educational development and healthcare. Another realm of topic that most campaign candidates use to appeal to the emotions and perceptions of the people insist on the utilization of social controversies that the community is subjected to at present.

Presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney seem to have been subjected to the same realm of campaign approach that confronts the American society today. Among the social controversies that are tackled in most of President Barack Obama’s speeches is his outpouring support for same-sex marriage and abortion. He recognizes the fact that when it comes to issues of personal health, emotions and other matters that involve individual decisions, humans should not be subjected to specific guidelines, as it would deny them of their right to personal liberty.

On the other hand, Romney, the Republican representative makes it a point that the establishment of a specific law in relation to these issues simply aim to support the primary health needs of the people. He mentions that on the part of the republicans, they would not think twice to go beyond the rights of the people if it would mean saving them and their health in consideration with their decisions of the heart.

True, in politics, it is not only the economy, the education and other staple topics that get the attention of the people. Instead, there are instances when particular controversies primarily get the gist of the competition hence creating a huge difference on how the people would view the personal being of each candidate. In this case, it could be realized that the aspect of politics create an argument between the needs and the morality of the people. The attention that the people place upon these particular issues primarily characterizes their priority as a nation and as people of moral obligation and social responsibility.

This is the reason why in deciding which candidate to vote in elections, people often involve their personal considerations on the specific controversies that the candidates tackle and how they take their stand in each issue. Hence, this makes the campaign approaches of candidates most likely related to how the people would appeal not only to what they think, what they plan or what they want but also on who they are.
