Words: 559

Essay

Question 1: If you will be sampling, do you anticipate that you will be using a biased sample? If yes, what doyou anticipate will be the source of the bias? Is there anything you can do to reduce the bias?Explain.

For this particular object we will employ sampling to obtain participants for the research. The sample will indeed be biased. This is because the sample will be non-random and will originate from one place. This will mean that there will be a high chance that a given section of the intended sample will be underrepresented while others will be overrepresented relative to the total population of the intended sample.

The source of the bias will originate from the fact that not all of the individuals of the population intended for the population from which the sample will be taken from, will be available on that given day. Since this will be done in the offices, some of the staff and employees may not be available on that particular day due to personal reasons.

Furthermore some of the staff of a given section of the organization have their duties entail mobility outside of the office. In such a scenario, the staff of these departments will not be available for the survey, leaving other departments overrepresented while others underrepresented.

In order to reduce this bias, the individuals who will participate in the survey will have to be limited from each given department. This means that a threshold and ceiling number of people will be determined in order to detail the number of people allowed to take part in the survey to give a more accurate depiction of what is true. Without this, there is a high possibility that the results of our survey results will be inaccurately attributed to the phenomenon that the survey is studying rather than to the sampling method that is in use.

Another solution would also be to employ a random survey within the organization while maintaining the scope and depth of the survey. This will allow for a better representation of all departments.

Question 2. Will you use sampling to obtain participants for your research? If yes, do you plan to use randomsampling, systematic sampling, or some other method of sampling? Explain.

For this particular object we will employ sampling to obtain participants for the research. This will ensure that the project variables, i.e. limit the dynamic variables in order to ensure concise results from the research. Sampling is the best fit method for this kind of project. This is because sampling will provide a general overview of the general opinions of a given population.

The sampling method will be systematic sampling. This will be done through a survey. The survey will be conducted in one center. This will increase access to information by having all the information collected from one center as opposed to having information collected in different centers or areas. This reduces the dynamic variables associated with having a dispersed sample.

The survey tool that will be employed will be a web based program that enables the users to login and create their survey in their own time. It is important that any and all participants taking the survey have enough time to take the survey and have access to the internet. This will allow for the participants to complete the survey at their own time and in their own desired location.
