According to the book “Walking through Walls”, written by Philip Smith it is true that Philip Smith father Lew Smith was a successful interior designer but later he got a calling to heal people (Smith, 2008)[1]. This dramatically changed his lifestyle since he adopted new habits of lifestyle. There were those who viewed him being crazy, eccentric due to his extra-ordinary abilities (Walking through Walls, 2008)[2]. For example, he had the ability to find out where an individual health problem and also heal them.  Philip also managed to heal a number of people in the society and this ability he inherited from his father (Smith, 2008)[3].

As his story unfolds, it is evident that Smith father had the ability and power to talk to the dead as well as heal the sick (Walking through Walls, 2008). Philip Smith was constantly watching his father transform himself through the use of his supernatural powers in the society (Smith, 2008)[4]. The book also illustrates and demonstrates how Philip Smith grew up in a household full of talking spirits and other exorcisms activities. Many people were cured of various fatal diseases in their households (Smith, 2008)[5].

Due to many problems and nagging relatives in their family, Philip faced and looks a number of ways of escaping these mystical challenges in their home. He later involved into sex, surfing activities as well as other scientological activities (Smith, 2008)[6].  The book also illustrates how Philip later managed to map his own identity in the society thus facing several dilemmas in the society.  It is also true that as a young man Philip Smith face a number of challenges growing in his father home. Philip Smith also face a lot of frustrations and embarrassments due to his father’s mystical behaviors and practices (Smith, 2008)[7].

Moreover, Philip Smith father was able to heal people over the phone and through their relatives without having any direct contact with the sick in the society. Philip also indicates in the book, “Walking through Walls”, that his father was initiated through the spirit world through adoption and encouraging his family to eat macrobiotic foods (Smith, 2008)[8]. Therefore, it is true that Philip Smith face a dilemma on how to associate with his father who mystic and natural healing spirits to perform various exorcisms in the society (Smith, 2008)[9]. However, his father influence his life in a number of ways and he later managed to adopt and admire his father healing practices in the society. After his father’s death Philip later appreciated his father’s mystic spirits and healing powers (Smith, 2008)[10].
