What Does Kindness Mean to You, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 306

Essay

If you were to go around asking people what is the center of the universe, some of the answers you might get are love, peace, themselves, etc.  It is a question with no absolute answer, but if you were to ask me, I would say it is kindness. Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. With that in mind, we are able to understand what it takes to be kind. Most people today have unfortunately forgotten what it means to be kind. We live every passing day as a cycle, only caring for ourselves and trying to satisfy our own needs. We are so set in our daily cycles that we at times forget the simple act of kindness. The act of kindness can be as large as donating a significant amount of money for a charity, or as small as simply sharing a smile. I believe kindness is like a catching a cold. It is contagious and it can easily be spread. A simple act of kindness such as opening the door for someone, helping some one carry his or her bags, sharing a dollar to someone in need, or sharing a smile, can be contagious. When someone witnesses an act of kindness, they are motivated to make an act of kindness themselves. That is why I try and have at least one act of kindness each day. I learned kindness from the most humble and modest people I know, my parents. My parents raised me believing that the key to happiness is love, and to achieve that we have to learn to put others before us.  Kindness consists of being humble and considerate of others, and as long as we keep that in mind, we can not only help the world become a better place, but also to achieve internal happiness.
