Action painting is a style of painting where paint is applied to the canvas in no particular finite matter but rather splashed, spread, or thrown into it. This style of painting is abstract and often used to highlight the great values of the paint itself within each art piece. Jackson Pollock is by far the most notable within this style of painting and is also the person responsible for the fame of the style as well. Action painting has been modernized and new artists such as Jeremy Rotsztain have been able to create marvels with the technological advances at hand. Every piece can tell a different story as interpreted by the viewer and today my perception shall be entailed.
The action painting Revving Motors, Spinning Wheels tells a particularly interesting story. This story begins with Juan the racer who is competing in one of the preliminary races before the great world 700 race that is coming close. Juan has been undefeated and remains as the only person above his life-long rival, Emilio. Emilio has devised a plan to end Juan’s racing career by hiring two racers from the competition in order for them to take Juan out of the trail and into the woods. The race continues and the two racers that have been hired are about to execute their plan but have a great deal of struggle catching up with Juan. Taking a pit stop to effectuate a change of wheels Juan is approached by the two racers who have finally caught up to him and are ready to take him out. They get to each side of Juan’s car and make a complete shift which causes Juan’s car to go shooting right into the forest. Seeking to survive, Juan ejects himself from the car and falls into the woods in the middle of nowhere. He has lost all communication and is forced to search for a way back to civilization.
Despite the great struggle that is brought upon him Juan is still motivated to find his way back and win the 700 world cup. Juan is very athletic from all of the conditioning he undergoes to stay in shape and is therefore able to find a food source rapidly. He makes use of fish within a small river for survival. After days of searching for a way back Juan runs into a major problem. As he is taking his daily meal from the river he finds a bear that intends to get the same food source and is angered at the sign of Juan. The bear charges at Juan but he is able to run away freely with a significant scratch from the bear. This attack, however, is what saves Juan’s life since he is driven to find a path way of footsteps that could potentially lead to civilization. Juan follows the footsteps, tired and injured and runs upon a cabin which could potentially save his life. He runs with all of the energy he has left to it and a couple that recognizes him from his races come out to help him and get him well. After some time with the couple, Juan is not fully recovered but must return to his agency if he wants a shot at winning the world cup.
Juan arrives back at his agency one week before the race and everyone is astonished at his presence. Juan knew exactly who had been responsible for his accident but planned to destroy Emilio in the race rather than simply taking him out for committing the crime. Emilio, who was already celebrating the fact that he would win the race is now petrified at the sight of Juan in the news. The big day finally arrives and the time has come for each racer to show off their abilities. As usual, the race is held outside and a terrible snowstorm breaks out right before the race. The race begin and after two hundred laps Emilio and Juan remain leaders of the race with just a short distance separating each other. During the final five laps Juan is able to gain advantage over Emilio by a significant distance but his driving deteriorates quickly as the scar in his back from the bear has begun to bleed profusely due to ulceration from the race. In the last hundred meters Juan beats Emilio by an extremely short distance and is declared the world champion and given the nickname “bear claw.” Emilio apologizes for what he has done to Juan and recognizes his superiority as a racer.
Principles of Design
John Bisbee is an artist that has sought out to make something out of twelve-inch nails that are often overlooked as the fundamental elements that make up buildings. In his pieces he makes use of these nails in order to create extraordinary sculptures. Bisbee is able to create something different of the same nails he uses in his work every time. He combines these nails and puts them together into visually aesthetic sculptures with properly arranged patters and structures. Through the use of his sculptures Bisbee seeks to express the value of a single element into endless possibilities. The work that Bisbee creates is aesthetic but he allows for the viewers to find their own meaning in his sculptures and wander at the marvels that he has made.
