Community policies are extremely vital aspect for the modern policing even though it has a different meaning to everybody. The increase in crimes and funding for community policy could affect it tremendously. One of the most important aspects for creating community policies is to regulate violence, cultural conflicts, the economical injustices, drug abuse among the youth, terrorism, racial discrimination, the increment of illegal immigrants and the shortage of resources due to lack of funding.
The community policies involve the community in order to control the number of crimes in the area. The policies involve the active problem solving process rather than the prevention of crimes. This means that the community works together with the police in order to identify the problem for the crime. The analysis of the situation and finding the solution for the problem is enhanced. The community is also given an opportunity to participate in the designing of programs in which crime can be prevented (Bayley, & Nixon, 2010). In these programs, we find the neighbourhood watch where the people are directly involved in ensuring that there is security in their community. The other is when the people volunteers in enforcing the law by becoming police officers.
The community should ensure that the police stations in their community contain the new forms of technologies. The stations should have the latest forensic technologies that could be used in investigations of the worst crimes in the community such as murder (Greene & Mastrofski, 1998). The citizens must ensure that the people employed in the police department are very intelligent in order to make well-thought policies guaranteeing safe and secured environment.
In community policing, strategies involves the community, the educators in the police academies, the hiring of new police officers, foot patrols, quick and rapid response to the calls of services such as 911. There should be continues criminal investigations in the community (Greene & Mastrofski, 1998). The people involved ensure that the crime rate in the area reduces hence, a peaceful environment. The police officers in facilitating law enforcement in the community should try to focus their attention in areas where problems of insecurity persist. This means that they are required to have the necessary material or equipment in order to ensure they can be able to protect themselves and the people at large. The forensic equipments brought in the police departments ensure that the right criminals in the community are apprehended. The DNA is the best evidence when it comes to capturing criminals than peoples testimonies. This is the most important strategy used in the community policy because it makes the police look competent (Bayley, & Nixon, 2010). The intelligent led policing are used as a tool for community policy because it monitors television and collects data and maps the regions which has high crime rate. This information is collected and analysed by the impersonal sources. This enables the police officers to make their own plans of action without consulting the community.
In conclusion, community policies ensure that people are involved with the police in order to increase security in the area. The community policy is made for future policies that will make a better tomorrow. There are many strategies made in order to ensure its effectiveness such as the devolution of the local communities to that of the public security. The interaction between the police and the community has changed their roles such as their operations, and the control they have over people in the community. The community are useful when it comes to the enhancement of securing the areas they live.
