What Is the Status of My Writing After This Semester? Creative Essay Example

I am writing to communicate my views and elaborate my status as a writer. This is with to the regards of the steps I have made and the position that I currently hold as far as my writing skills are concerned. As my instructor, your class in general has made me overcome several milestones in this field. This has been achieved through personal efforts, group contributions, and class work. It is only upon determination of where I have come from; my current position and where I am heading that will ensure my progress in this field as a writer.

My weaknesses in both the writing process and the final drafts have been numerous.. I have many difficulties in choosing a topic. This has been because of never having done a research before. I also have not been a consistent reader. My minds were initially blocked no single interesting topic could flow out. My second weakness was to research for the information needed to build up my topics and get the information needed. I also had the problem of writing the refutation paragraphs in my works. My introduction was too wordy and neither was it interesting too. I had a problem in connecting the ideas I had. This came under your notice when you went through my second assignment concerning computer technology. The assignment also had various mistakes related to making of quotes and citations.

Despite the numerous weaknesses I had, I had my strongholds that encouraged me to move on. This included my ability to learn first from the mistakes that I was making. In particular, I applied the art of brain storming, which I had learnt earlier to come up with interesting topics and ideas. My instructor simply said,”…a very well thought…very interesting..” when I presented my fist assignment. This gave me the courage that my level of creativity was satisfying.

My peers too contributed in making me more of a refined writer. Though not in large extends, their effort cannot go without a mention. Ying commented that I should “use an attractive title” when he went through my work. He went ahead and suggested that I put views in my first sentence of my paragraph to make my work more interesting. This helped me at great lengths as it made me tighten my efforts of coming up with an interesting title. He also made me learn on how to introduce ideas in my paragraphs. To be precise, he made me realize that a paragraph that contains the general views of the entire paragraph give its reader the desire to go on reading. On the positive strengths, I had Abdulla making comments about my third assignment. When asked to suggest the best part of my essay, Abdulla pointed out my introduction. This encouraged me and showed that the efforts I had done to make my introduction captivating were fruitful.

The third assignment that I did represents my best work that I have done. The reason is all about the grade and the nature of the topic I tackled. After a lot of research in the research center and going through several books, I opted to do something that affects the globe. This made me resolve on America and its perceived Dictatorship on other countries. It turned out to be a very interesting topic that harbored well natured points and views. After lots of efforts that I put on this essay, I ended up getting an A in this essay. I got one of the best remarks on this essay that have made me believe my writing skills have greatly improved. One of the comments I got from you was touching. It has made a positive impact in my writing. “You are a very good writer,” it went. It is quite an inspiration.

Revision strategies helped me in my process of writing. Peer comments and suggestions were sometimes not reliable. Some peers found no mistakes in an area that were full of mistakes and errors. After observing this, I decided to embark on a thorough research on topics and their supporting materials. It is from this intensive research that I did manage to equip myself with ideas and knowledge.

The essay that I learnt the most from is the essay that I did not do the best. This was the second essay that involved computer technology. From the essay, I learnt how to make quotes and connect different ideas. This enabled me to improve on the flow of my ideas and views thus enabling me to have a smooth flow of my essay.

Assessing the works that I have done this semester makes me feel that I have improved considerably. I am precisely happy with my progress. Both my creativity and writing skills have improved. My knowledge in research also has a boost thus making me a more refined writer than I was when I first stepped into this class. However, I would like to work more on any writing that involves Science and Technology. This field requires lots of knowledge and facts. Writing such essays need consistence in research and reading of related articles.

In order to ensure that my writing skills do not face a setback in terms of growth, I have opted to set individual goals that will enhance my growth as a writer. My short-term goal is to pass English 108 with an A. This will give me the self-belief that I require as a writer. It will increase my passion and zeal of writing and the urge to do even more as I try to improve on my skills. Long-term goals include writing of articles and books. Through research and creativeness, I will embark on a mission that will see me write several non-examinable articles and books about issues affecting the globe. It is only through such achievements that I will be putting my writing skills into use.

To be sincere, am surprised about the works that I have done this semester. The bulk of what I have written is amazing. I never thought that I will complete this much at the start of this class. The number of assignments and the weight carried by each work that I have done was unforeseen.

Secondly is the level of writing that I have achieved. It surprises me that what I have learnt is so much, yet I thought that I already knew much when this class began. This has made me realize that, in writing, there is so much that can only be realized amid hard work and a passion to learn.

The process by which I have accomplished all these is also unbelievable. It did not hit my mind initially that peers could contribute in my writing process. Looking at a few of their comments, I have learnt that learning process is a collective responsibility. However, the best remarks are preserved for my instructor. They were all encouraging, informing, and educative. Having never done a serious research before, it surprises, me that research carried the bulk of my potential as a writer. It has come to my realization that tapping of one’s potential in writing lies in oneself. Personal research and reading has enabled me to achieve the bulk of what I currently possess in terms of writing.
