What Makes a Man Successful? Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 294

Essay

In chapter 4 of Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, he presents a rather identifiable course of distinction that challenges the way his readers understand the real meaning of success among individuals who have struggled through life and all those others who were born with a silver spoon. In this chapter, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan. Noted as the smartest man in America, Langan’s success was rather pointed out by Gladwell as less-defined and less-recognized. Noticeably, such consideration gives a definite impact on how success is understood especially in envisioning the concept of one’s background especially in relation to his family. In this writing, Gladwell points out that most of the time, individuals having a rather poor background [Chris’ mother was a working woman while his father was a drunkard] have a more defined distinction on how they ought to face life’s hardest activities.

Contrasting such life with Robert Oppenheimer, Gladwell insists on how improved essence of such familial background does create a more workable environment for hopefuls and for those who do have the right talent and skills for a particular point of excellence. Gladwell was determined to point out that when it comes to moral support, family-background plays a great role in making something out of great individuals. In this part of the presentation noted in the narrative of the Outliers,  Gladwell’s role in helping his readers understand the different realities about life is what makes a definite turn on how individuals embrace the benefits of having the capacity to use their talents and skills based on what gives them the greatest purpose in life. Most likely, it is the concern for one’s capacity to use such gifts and be supported accordingly that identifies the possible successful points of living that a person is able to embrace.
