These challenges are relevant because they contribute to the overall direction of nursing practice in California and the legislation that governs this field in many ways. Patient care and safety are key priorities for nurses, and these objectives are achieved through a comprehensive and coordinated response to nursing roles, rights, and responsibilities. It is imperative that nurses are represented in California with a strong level support and understanding of the issues that they face, including long shifts, high turnover rates, high stress levels, and other challenges. Each of these issues is instrumental in facilitating outcomes for nurses and must be addressed on a regular basis in order to ensure that nurses are successful practice facilitators and positive role models for healthcare organizations.

Nurses play a critical role in shaping practice objectives and in supporting the development of new approaches to patient care and treatment. Establishing support for nurses requires an effective understanding of their challenges in the profession and beyond. These struggles may play a role in shaping outcomes for patients when nursing issues interfere with these practices. The most important items to consider from this perspective, is the role of the union in establishing effective communication and successful decision-making practices to enable nurses to make positive choices regarding their professional careers. The union environment offers positive reinforcements to nurses in order to perform their roles effectively across a nursing work environments. As a result, it is important for the union to provide nurses in California with a means of exercising sound and reasonable judgment in all cases. When patients are represented by their nurses in a positive manner, the results will be beneficial. Nurses must recognize the value of the UNAC as viable knowledge resource for nurses who face critical concerns from their managers that are not resolved at the organizational level. This problem is not uncommon and requires external support and guidance from an organization such as the UNAC in order to resolve problems effectively. Furthermore, nurses who require support from the UNAC are likely to improve their circumstances and lead to a more harmonious work environment under specific conditions that will have a positive impact on the nursing unit and on the organization as a whole. Therefore, nurses’ quality of care and treatment will be optimized and will influence patient outcomes in a favorable and appropriate manner.
