White House Press Release, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 259

Essay

The first thing I immediately noticed was the open communication by the government and it impressed me. This helps increase the trust between the government and the public. I also like the fact that the government has tried to educate the public by giving them an idea of the military technologies currently available and the potential of scientific progress that could result from such knowledge such as future energy alternatives to coal and water. Another positive thing about the press release is that it has given credit to allies and acknowledged their contribution which will strengthen the respect for U.S. among its allies. But the press release could also have certain undesirable outcomes.

The press release may make the country appear as arrogant which believes in unrestrained force of use against the enemy. The press release also portrays war as desirable in some aspects and may promote too much nationalism among the citizens. The press release also sends the message that there is no need for negotiations when use of force can help achieve political objectives. Another mistake is that the press release at some places gives too specific details such as locations and military on-going projects which could be used by the enemy. The press release could also cause alarm among the enemies who would speed up their own projects and may even start new ones, feeling threatened by the U.S. The press release also portrays an overconfident tone of the U.S. government which may make the citizens feel safer from the enemy threats than they may really be.
