Americans are becoming less interested in voting because they believe the party lines have become blurred. The republicans have the right extremist to the left extremist and the democrats have conservative democrats and extremist as well. In addition, Americans believe that political events will be handled by the governments regardless of the people’s interest or voting decisions. In addition, the article by Sodara(no date) found that Americans electoral votes participations is decreasing over the last 50 years and United States citizens are participating at a lower rate than Europe. The article by Sodara suggest that Americans in the lower class do not believe their vote counts therefore they do not vote as much as the upper-class citizens and the lower class no longer believes that democrats and republicans represent social programs that help the people.
The citizens of Americans in the new era believed that democracy, justice and quality of life is for the wealthy. The media is full of stories about unequal justice of the poor and rich and the government decisions that allow city and states make decision that pad the financial pockets of the wealthy. Americans have a low sense of change in the voting process because the electoral votes can make or break a candidate bid to be next leader. The world has learned from past elections that the most popular vote of the people does not equal a win. The law actual the constitution says that the candidate most electoral votes will become the next president. Americans are feed up with this type of voting mechanisms that cheapens the individual votes of one person.
Americans have lost interest in voting because of several reasons such as (1) They truly believe it’s useless to vote because your vote does not count(2) Americans have become too busy in the fast pace lifestyle with new technology and media every second of the day(3) Americans are tired of the party or partisans arguing over the constitution and making over complicated.(4) Americans sometimes just do not like the candidate(5) The voting lines are too long and some people cannot afford to spend several hours voting and finally (6) Some people are disabled or do not have transportation to get to the nearest voting location.
One of the issues that has been discussed in the news about Americans not wanting to vote is voters feeling alienated from the voting process because of some many different views and different sides. The lack of voter turnout in the United States has been caused by a plethora of factors such as the candidate is not likable and may not discuss the real issues. The best example is when Al Gore ran for president many felt he was hiding the fact of his lack of knowledge about making worldly decisions. This lack of confidence found more American people voting for the Bush as the new leader of the United States because of his family experience with running the country. In real life, they just did not like Al Gore so they voted for the alternative candidate who was considered the lesser of two evils. The most talked about issue is American voters do not truest the trust of voting systems because historically many presidential campaigns have been considered tainted. The majority of American voters have started to not trust the political machine and they distrust the voting system who spends too much time confusing voters in the news media. In some instances, the eligible voter does like the long lines at some of the precincts that may have overcrowding in their area. The trend of eligible voters not participating in the voting process is increasing in large numbers. The CNN coverage of the political system and voting system has become so Hollywood that is has alienated voters while causing many voters to shy away from any candidate. The CNN news one day will promote one candidate as the best one for the United States and the very next hour spend time discrediting the presidential candidate because he did not pay a speeding ticket when he was 18 years of age. It is clear that the political culture of American has some real problems with getting American voters to the polls in the future.
