Why Skin Wrinkles More in Certain Areas, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 349

Essay

The main argument in this article deals with why some people’s skin seems to age more and quicker than others. The argument points out that people stay younger looking longer if they have oily skin as opposed to having dry skin. The article cites that this is evidenced by a study that examined the faces of donated cadavers, with significance placed on their skin types and the amount of wrinkles in certain areas of the face.

The emotional appeals in this article seem to be playing on the readers’ sense of how they perceive their skin type. The article may make people with dry skin feel vulnerable to looking old, while feeling that people with more oils in the skin are blessed to look younger, longer. The evidence given in the article about this issue is weak because it is only limited to analyzing the skin of a few dead people. The article even mentions that the study was flawed because of its limitations.

Additionally, the article is biased toward people with oily skin, which gives off a sense of those people being better than people with dry skin. This, no doubt, has much to do with how the article is worded. It comes across like people with dry skin look old. This is an undesirable part of the article because people, unfortunately, do not get to choose what type of skin they are born with and may cause some people to feel down about themselves, so this is a weakness in how the article is written. However, strengths of the article include that it explains how one can hydrate better for better skin and it gives information on popular beauty oils and Asian beauty secrets. This is good because it gives some possible solutions to the aging skin problem that people could use, instead of only giving them the bad side of things. The article does a thorough job of pointing out the importance of skin care in anti-aging, which is also a plus.
