Why We Need to Rethink Capitalism? Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 270

Essay

Overall, this was an effective speech for a variety of reasons. In addition to the fact that the presenter provides a good argument and appears to be an expert on the subject, he demonstrates coherence by speaking clearly, appealing to the audience, and by providing the arguments in words that the audience members are able to understand despite their levels of experience. His overall claim that capitalism is important is a strong one and he demonstrates this point by showing the audience charts that back his sub-claims. However, one effort that undermines this coherence is the speaker’s accent. While he speaks clearly, his accent is slightly distracting.

There is a high degree of acceptability in this speech as well. Capitalism and the economy are major issues in the United States, and many American citizens are worried about how the income gap will affect their lives. Therefore, it is likely that the American individuals in the audience are accepting of the speaker’s expertise and willing to hear the solutions to this problem that he proposes.

Last, the content of this video demonstrates a high degree of informativeness. It is clear that the presenter makes statements only after by backing them up with evidence. The information he presents is a mixture of new and unknown to the listener, who can use the graphs presented in order to generate new understanding of the information. In this case, the speaker introduces the talk by discussing the meaning of capitalism and then using this definition to relate to the information that he presents throughout his talk, making it relatable, effective, and easy for the audience to understand.
