Pages: 1

Words: 308

Essay

There is race for energy sources as the current ones will probably not last through to the middle of the century thus the interest in sources such as wind, water, and other renewable interests. Wind power is a growing phenomenon and the article aims to assess the possibility of wind being used in a certain wind farm performing at an optimal capacity. The performance assessment will probably go toward using the wind farm in a proposal for other uses. The performance assessment indicates the amount of energy utilized and wasted in terms of efficiency. The efficiency analysis relies largely on the turbine availability that relates to the performance of the whole system.

This tie into what is wasted and how much efficiency is created. Some of the reasons for unavailability in this aspect include some unavoidable instances such as human lapses where scheduled and unscheduled maintenance interfere with running of things. Utility is also unavoidable when periods of low grid availability tie in to the unavailability. Of course, however, there are limitations to the study itself whereby the power curve for the turbines did not follow the fore-casted path due to differences in unavailability in the turbines at times that had not been specified.

The method for analyzing the operations and performance of the said wind farm was found in the article where analysis of a number of years combined with methodology attained from experience. This helped to come up with an availability index and a correction factor of which can set up a realistic energy based assumption, which can help in the set up of a computer program to ascertain the errors and fluctuations when they appear in the system. However, it is hoped that, in the future, the warranty agreements will change to ensure that the compensation claims are oriented to the real energy losses due to unavailability.
