Pages: 2

Words: 465

Essay

Overview of the Lesson/Module:

Students will be presented with several articles and videos to help them understand the current state of the health care system. They will then be asked to discuss these articles on an online forum and discuss the problems that are present and why they exist. They will then be required to use this information to pose potential solutions in the group discussion. The final product of this assignment will be a paper, so students will be asked to outline their paper and divide the writing into four different parts in order to make the world equal. The final product will be a paper that everyone has contributed to and proofread to ensure consistency between the different parts that were written. This type of assignment will teach online collaboration and critical thinking skills, in addition to expanding this knowledge to a real world situation that is a pressing matter in the health care field.

Objectives of the Lesson/Module:

To compile a group report evaluating the health care system using online collaboration.

Primary Resources:

The primary resource used will be the predetermined videos and articles. These will be selected close to the assignment date in order to reflect the most recent news that is impacting the health care system.

Additional Supplemental Resources:

Students that speak a native language other than English will be provided with dictionaries or online translators to help them translate their vocabulary to the English language. Students may also refer to library books and Internet resources to conduct further research.

Activities, Timeline/Due dates:

Day 1: Read through the articles and watch videos. Create an online discussion post to summarize important information about these topics and then share them with group members.

Day 2: Respond to group members about their opinions, citing agreement or disagreement. Post an additional response that proposes solutions to the problems cited the day before, using evidence.

Day 3: Respond to group members about the solutions they propose. Begin creating an outline and delegating responsibilities to group members.

Day 4: Finalize writing responsibilities and begin the independent writing of the paper.

Day 5: Finalize the independent writing of the paper and proofread the whole paper as a group to ensure consistency and fix some information as needed. Submit final presentation.

Assessment / Grading

Student performance will be assessed based on the essay product that they will provide. Points will be given for the content and frequency of group posts, ability to work together coherently and remain focused and professional, effectively delegate tasks to team members, and to write and revise the paper in a manner that creates a consistent product. These points will be made into a rubric on the scale of 0 to 4. Students who surpass these goals will receive a 4 for each point, while those that do not meet them at all will receive a score of 0.
