Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 275

Essay

The speaker, Amy Cuddy talks about how body language can change people’s lives. She starts with a premise and proves the statement step-by-step.

Ethos

The speaker creates a sense of credibility, when she talks about her personal interest, research subjects, and experiments. She shows images to the audience in order to show them how the experiments were carried out. She tells them about her background, where she teaches, which subjects she focuses on, and makes a connection between the results and people’s personal lives: making the topic both interesting and relevant.

Pathos

Amy Cuddy tells the audience a personal story from her life. She suffered a car accident and her IQ level dropped. She struggled and pretended that she was able to compete with other people at college, and finished her education. Looking back, she concludes that she did not only “fake it until she made it”, but she became her thoughts. When she talks about this experience and how she can relate to others who do not believe they “are supposed to be there”, she becomes emotional, so does the audience. In the end of the speech, people stand up and clap, as they can relate to the speaker and her message.

Logos

The speaker makes a statement in the beginning of the speech, and then proves its validity step-by-step. She tells the audience about the results of the experiments, and those that were concluded among people before interviews. She builds up her argument in a logical way, and it is easy to follow. She illustrates every step of the logical process with visual aids.
