A Letter About Michaels Character, Creative Essay Example

I am writing to express my wholehearted support for Michael as he faces your court for his sentencing hearing.  I would like to explain my relationship with Michael so that you might have a better idea of the kind of man that he is, and the kind of man that I know he can be.

I live in the same apartment complex as Michael and his wife, Melissa.  We have been neighbors since 2009, and in that time I have had countless positive interactions with Michael.  As a disabled person, it is often difficult for me to take care of physical tasks around my house.  Because of this, Michael and his wife have taken an active interest in my needs, and have made themselves available to me for both companionship and physical help.  For example, Michael often changes light bulbs, makes minor repairs, and carries in my groceries.  I rarely have to ask him for his help; instead, he regularly offers his services without asking for anything except a little bit of conversation.  I have come to look forward to his visits with great anticipation as he is always positive, cheery, and kind.  He never makes me feel bad about needing help; instead, he makes me feel as if I am helping him by allowing him to tend to my needs.

In a way, Michael feels like a member of my extended family.  I have known his wife Melissa and her family since she was 13 years old.  Michael first began dating Melissa when she was sixteen, and I attended their wedding in 2008.  I have had many opportunities to converse with him, which has given me the chance to recognize that he is a person who has overcome a great deal of personal difficulties and is continually striving to be a better person.  I know him to be a kind man who is respectful to his elders.  He is a hard worker who loves his wife, his family, and his friends.  We have often discussed his dreams of returning to school so that he can create a better future for himself and his family, and I believe that he has the intelligence and personal strength to accomplish these dreams.  Our apartment building isn’t the same without Michael around.  Melissa is terribly sad and lonely without her husband, and I find that I feel more helpless and less happy without Michael in my life as well.

I hope that you will give Michael another chance to embark upon a positive and successful life.  I believe that he is a good person who has made a mistake, and I know that he can go on to lead a happy life in which he can continue to help the people around him.
