A business organization can benefit from the implementation of a quality program. A quality program can be described as “the managing structure, responsibilities, procedures, processes, and management resources to implement the principles and action lines needed to achieve the quality objectives of an organization (CERCOWG, 2000)”. The success of the quality program is dependent on the steps in which the organization follows, upon the implementation of the quality program. There are several steps that are important in this process. The first step is to identify a quality manager and make sure they understand the need for a quality system. The next step is to develop an initial project to illustrate the benefits of a quality program. Third is to analyze the current processes and determine which areas need improvement. The final step is to manage the quality system effectively. (CERCOWG, 2000)
The role of management is extremely important and can affect the quality program implementation. The management staff must be understanding and fully committed to enforcing and implementing the quality management program, as they are responsible for effectively training and communicating to their staff on the new system. (CERCOWG, 2000)
The implementation of new procedures and protocols always involves new challenges and risks. It is recommended that a business implements risk management in addition to a quality program in order to indentify types of challenges that can arise. Challenges can range from lack of management commitment, employee dissatisfaction, increase in costs or loss of profit, or to lack of quality improvement in the product. (CERCOWG, 2000) Whatever the challenges, the business should pull through and keep working on implementing the quality program, as it has shown success for many businesses.
