Media and advertising, like mentioned in the article, does have a great impact on how people develop their perception about particular products sold in the market. It could not be denied that it is because of this fact that business organizations intend to use media at its best to make sure that they get the benefit of making money from the ads they produce. For products such as prescription drugs though, I would agree with what the author wants to send out as a message; that advertisements dedicated to promote prescription drugs often cause more damage than good.

The reason why advertising prescription drugs is pursued by several pharmaceutical companies is that these drugs are often expensive and the competition in the market is tough. Relatively, through convincing the market that what a particular organization provides the market with is the best among all the other pharmaceutical brands, these organizations would be able to get the edge they need to increase sales and retain their competitive stand in the industry. However, when it comes to determining the actual need of each individual, especially in relation to issues of depression, these advertisements’ exaggeration and development of information as presented to media often makes it harder for the physicians to provide the patients with what they need apart from what they want to receive. Relatively, the physicians spend more time explaining what particular drugs offer and what side effects they may have. With the increasing belief of the market that they need these prescriptions drugs as advertised in media, the pressure on the physicians increase, thus lessening their time of providing care and health assistance to as much number of patients in a day. True, with prescription drugs, consumers need to know more than just what the media suggests. Only through controlling or managing the presentation of information through media-based advertisements of these drugs would such problem be resolved accordingly.
