Corporal Punishment, Reaction Paper Example

Reaction Paper

As inscribed in the article, I concur with the author that indeed corporal punishment is not the best way to administer discipline to children. It is evident from the author’s arguments that corporal punishment induces fear in minds of many young people, which can eventually create harm to their physical growth of mind. It is noteworthy that the medical society for the adolescents has put into documentation the most prominent consequences that result from corporal punishment. This clearly demonstrates that corporal punishment should not be practiced at all in an attempt to inculcate discipline to children.

It is evident from the article that in the end, corporal punishment affects the child’s psychological development and acts as emotional trigger. Physical punishment of children by adults raises tension in that they consider it as a lack of attention to others. Corporal punishment may trigger a number of problems. For instance, some pupils may incur brain damage and rupture of the eardrum. Vehemently, some teachers, or parents do impart hard punishment that can lead to death of some of the students. Occasionally, death does occur if a pupil takes up an exercise in its excess under the influence of the sun or bad temperature.

It is imperative that corporal punishment does not necessary impart children with good morals such as self-discipline and respect to one another when they mature. Alternatively, it creates behaviors that are not sociable and hence distorting sound judgments. Furthermore, corporal punishment goes against the ethical process of development whereby, it dedicates children into certain behavior since they might fear the punishment that is hitherto. Unfortunately, it does not teach the children ethics and reason on which is the correct way to follow. Similarly, corporal punishment on children leads to a perception that violence is a vital response to resolution of conflict and un-wanting behavior. In addition, it teaches the children that powerful individuals have the mandate to be violent to other weaker party and hence be solving issues through chaos. The author of the article is therefore justified to conclude that corporal punishment is not the best way to administer discipline to children. Instead, children should be engaged in dialogue and incessant guidance and counseling.
