Introduction
A collection of paper aircraft models had been applied in order to simulate the flight behaviors of real aircraft. The models which had been applied varied from the basic dart model to the chopper model. There are paper aircraft that are composed of two wings and four wings. The aim of the experiment is to create a paper aircraft by means of the application of design that provides the optimal qualities of lift, aerodynamics and flight time.
As the airplane models are propelled, the amount of time that the model will be able to endure in flight and the number of meters traversed during the flight of the model aircraft will be documented. After several trials pertaining to distant aircraft models while documenting the time spent in flight and the amount of meters covered during flight, enhancement will be implemented and the novel paradigms were applied. In the experiment there are six different models that were applied in order to simulate the behavior of the actual aircraft. The independent variables are the weight, wingspan and length of the aircraft. The dependent variables are the flight time, distance travelled and flight speed.
Background Theory
The mass of the aircraft is one of the limiting parameters in the design of the aircraft elements. The optimal weight of an aircraft may be ascertained by the application of Newton’s Second Law. In addition, the element of lift is an important quality that must be possessed by aircraft. Bernoulli’s law regarding the pressure of the air as it passes over the airfoil in relation to the velocity will be explored in the laboratory experiment. Finally, a cross view of the wing will be reviewed and the amber that the wings area influences the velocity of the aircraft and the pressure of the air passing over the wind will be reviewed.
Materials and Procedure
The materials that will be used in the experiment are easily acquired. The materials that will be applied in the experiment are the following components:
- Angular protracting device.
- Ruler or meter stick.
- Measuring tape.
- A4 Sheets of paper with a variety of colors in order to distinguish the models of paper aircraft.
Experimental Procedure
Six distinct models of aircraft will be preselected. The model aircraft will be flown at an angle of incidence equivalent to 45? into, aside and against the wind. Each of the model airplanes will be evaluated for seven trials. The flight time of each airplane will be documented. In order to simulate the conditions of flying into the wind at a lateral perpendicular angle, an exit door from the experimental laboratory will be applied. The negative pressure that causes the air to enter into the exit door should provide these conditions. In order to simulate the aircraft flying with the wind, the aircraft will be propelled from the outside into the experimental facility in order to optimize the use of the differential negative pressure.
In order to simulate the aircraft flying against the wind, the aircraft will be propelled from the inside of the experimental facility to the outside of the facility flying against the direction of the air pressure created. Assistants will be required in order to accurately document the flight distance and flight time of the aircraft. The data collected will be analyzed and graphically demonstrated.
Results
The results regarding the dimensions of the wingspans, length of the aircraft, time spent in flight, distance travelled and time elapsed will be documented on a chart.
Discussion
The results of the aircraft with the optimal flight times, flight distances and flight speeds will be reviewed. The physical characteristics will be analyzed regarding weight, drag and thrust.
