American University of Sharjah, Personal Statement Example

I was born and grew up in Saudi Arabia which is quite a traditional society. Fortunately, my parents have always had a global perspective, thus, my family often traveled abroad so that we siblings develop appreciation for other cultures as well as more global perspective. As I finished high school, my family encouraged me to pursue my college education in the U.S. because American education system doesn’t only provide superior technical education but also helps students develop important soft skills such as critical thinking skills, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

When I started my college academic career at University of Colorado, I decided to focus on co-curricular activities as much as academics because college is arguably the most important investment in one’s future. Thus, I have not only excelled at University of Colorado in academics but has also established my credentials in leadership and teamwork through active engagement in campus organizations and cultural activities. In May this year, I would have successfully completed 39 credits as an Electrical Engineering Major at University of Colorado.

My experience in the U.S. could not have been more rewarding but I am also a dedicated follower of news and have been reading a lot about the economic and political rise of the Middle East region, especially UAE. More and more American Universities are establishing presence in the Middle East if they do not already have one and after carefully evaluating different options, I have come to the conclusion that American University of Sharjah is the best fit to my interests and goals.

American University of Sharjah has a long history of producing graduates that have come to lead their respective industries not in the Middle East but also at international level. American University of Sharjah has an education system that defines my own education philosophy. Education should not only take place in classrooms but also outside classrooms and American University of Sharjah provides tremendous opportunities to students to engage in co-curricular activities as well as networking with industry professionals. I also believe a university should increasingly attract diverse student body because globalization forces have never been stronger. When we interact with people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, our mind opens up and we develop global perspectives. American University of Sharjah has a long tradition of promoting student diversity and it is no surprise that it is one of the preferential institutions for global corporations to recruit talent. American University of Sharjah provides all the benefits of a leading American university but close to home. It is also an ideal choice for me because I plan to start my professional career in the Middle East and American University of Sharjah will help me stay in touch with the local trends.

I have no doubt I will be a valuable addition to the university’s community and my unique experiences and background will help enrich the learning experiences of my fellow students. I look forward to resuming my college career at American University of Sharjah and hope to benefit from tremendous learning opportunities offered by the university.
