Amy’s Story, Movie Review Example

As a victim of domestic violence, Amy faced a number of challenges. First is the physical abuse she received from her boyfriend Vince. She suffered from a broken nose inflicted by her boyfriend, and there was also the potential of further harm, considering the psychotic and violent behavior of her boyfriend. Another challenge is living in constant fear of her safety and that of the children. The other challenge is balancing work, a violent husband and taking care of her children. Amy also faced the challenge of failing to utilize opportunities to help her overcome the violent relationship. Her friends and family seemed not to take a keen interest in her case.

One of the preventive methods that Amy could have used is going to a shelter for abused women, where she could have gotten advice, food and shelter from her abusive husband. Amy could have reported her case to law enforcement agencies where a protective order could have been issued. This order could have denied her husband access to guns, hence avoidance of the fatal shooting. Amy could have looked for domestic violence education where she could be taught on how to handle her violent situation.

Amy’s incident affected her parents and friends because they felt that they could have done more to assist her. Her parents could have reported Vince’s behavior to the police since they were aware of his violent behavior. They could also have inquired from their daughter the problems she was facing, and then take the necessary steps, like advising her to quit the relationship. Since her workmates knew of her disturbance due to lack of job concentration, they took no initiative in trying to know the reasons behind her behavior. Despite the obsessive behavior of Vince, they could have attempted to lure her into revealing her problems, and then from there they could have given her advice. These people will live with the guilt that they could have done more to assist Amy, and could have seen the shooting avoided.
