Introduction

Nurses must be able to acquire the skills and resources that are necessary to support the growth of evidence-based practice within the wok environment. Nurses must be able to develop skills and attributes that will support their understanding of how these tools impact patient care and wellbeing over time. It is important to identify methods to educate nurses in acquiring these skills and in evaluating the context of patient quality of care as it relates to this process. Support for evidence-based practice must be acquired through the development of a framework to promote research scholarship and idea generation in order to accomplish the intended objectives in supporting opportunities to acquire knowledge and experience in evidence-based practice to accommodate patient needs in a positive manner that supports improvements in quality of care and the creation of an environment that will have a lasting impact on patient outcomes. These tools are particularly useful when addressing the challenges of patients in critical care units and in evaluating the context of the patient care environment when patients require skilled care and treatment on a continuous basis.

Analysis

An analysis of patient care expectations and outcomes must serve as part of the framework for achieving success in this area and in supporting the expansion of evidence-based solutions to accommodate nurses in these roles. In particular, cardiac care requires a high level understanding of the value of developing frameworks among nurses who work on the front lines and who create value among their colleagues through evidence-based solutions (Gerrish et.al, 2012). This is an important and highly useful tool in treating cardiac patients because of their complex needs and the necessity to improve one’s understanding of evidence-based practice solutions as part of the daily routine (Gerrish et.al, 2012). Therefore, an emphasis on evidence-based practice and promotion must support these objectives and fulfill the expectations of the organization and the patients who are served via high quality care and treatment at all times (Gerrish et.al, 2012).

There is a critical need for evidence-based practice solutions that will have a lasting impact on patients and on the development of new ideas to accommodate high quality care for patients. However, these objectives are often difficult to meet due to time constraints, a larger workload of patients, and other challenges that have a direct influence on the amount of time that is available to support a greater focus on evidence-based practice (Ubbink et.al, 2011). These practices reflect the importance of evaluating the conditions under which critical care patients might receive care and treatments based upon evidence-based practice protocols, as these conditions may be few and far between (Ubbink et.al, 2011). From this perspective, nurses must be able to exercise sound judgment and a high level of discretion in order to improve the visibility of evidence-based practice in the workplace so that they are able to reap the potential benefits of this practice over time (Ubbink et.al, 2011).

As part of the growth of nursing practice, nurses must be prepared to address the challenges that are related to change in the practice environment, particularly when patients are likely to achieve greater outcomes with an improved procedure or method to counteract a method that has not been successful (Makic, VonRueden, Rauen, & Chadwick, 2011). The utilization of evidence in the cardiac setting is particularly useful because it aims to impact a segment of the patient population with highly specific needs that require significant attention and analysis (Makic et.al, 2011). Therefore, nurses must be fully committed to these practices and in supporting a viable framework to achieve successful outcomes over the long term. This serves as an important step towards the discovery of new strategies to support effective patient care and to be proactive in advancing evidence-based research to the next level (Makic et.al, 2011).

Finally, healthcare professionals must advance specific tools and resources that are evidence-based in order to expand support and improve behavior in regards to these tools and their impact on the practice environment (Heiwe et.al, 2011). This process will encourage nurses to exercise greater effectiveness in establishing key principles that impact methods and procedures that are performed in the nursing unit (Heiwe et.al, 2011). The appropriate combination of evidence-based tools and a positive response to these tools is likely to facilitate a successful set of patient outcomes once the level of support for these objectives is clearly defined (Heiwe et.al, 2011). It is expected that these tools will demonstrate that evidence-based practice has a lasting and defining impact on patient care in different contexts and that there are sufficient opportunities to engage nurses in these protocols to encourage motivation and the appropriate response as best as possible (Heiwe et.al, 2011).

Conclusion

Evidence-based practice requires an astute level of education and knowledge to improve outcomes for the designated patient population and to be proactive in improving quality of care. These efforts require nurses to acquire important knowledge that will have a lasting impact on how they serve patients, and this is particularly relevant in cardiac and critical care settings where patients require continuous monitoring and positive support from their nurses as they administer the required care and treatment on a continuous basis. As a result, evidence-based practice must be encouraged, supported through education, and facilitated through the development of new ideas that will provide a high level of strength and support in advancing patient care outcomes on a consistent basis that supports and acknowledges the importance of this process.
