The article which will be reviewed is: Garsin, D.A., Frank, K. L., Silpan??, J., Ausubel, F. M., Hartke, A., Shankar, N. & Murphy, B. E. (2014). Pathogenesis and models of enterococcal infection. In M.S. Gilmore, D.B. Clewell, D. B., & Y. Ike (Eds.) Enterococci: from commensals to leading causes of drug resistant infection: Boston: Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, available from http;//www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/book/NBK190424.
The new information wh8ich is presented in this study is the enterococci bacteria’s aspect of resisting treatment in the host environments. This characteristic is extremely important for the health care populations which suffer from immunodeficiency disorders which are attributed to cancer treatments, skeleton marrow treatments, comprehensive organ transplants and elderly patents. The activities which are caused by the immune systems and the host systems which have been made feeble by the introduction of bacteria related toxins are the causal attribute of the host organism not being able to administrate the enterococci. This as article also explains the genetic characteristics which are contributors of the capacity of the enterococci’s survival and transmission of infection in the host environment.
The article is very informative and limited to the aspects which facilitate the enterococci bacteria’s capacity of thriving and communicating infection. The introduction reflects the important aspects of the meta- analytic review. The article reviews models which have been applied in order to review the infectious nature of the enterococci. The models which are reviewed date back to the initial research which had been conducted by McCallum & Hastings (1899). The study which had been created by McCallum & Hastings (1899) demonstrated several key issues with the introduction h of human enterococci.
The study reviews the aspect that during the past ten years the non-vertebrate paradigms have been produced as alternative medical models for review. The article explores the application of the Galleria Mellonella (greater wax moth) and the Cacnorhabitis elegans (nematode). The potential of these species with regards to providing pragmatic and cost avoidant options for the study of the capacity of the bacteriological pathogens to thrive and transmit toxins in the host environment is explored. The extensive early phase screens which are required for the classification of these aspects in the mammal species have been compared to the novel studies with invertebrates on bacteriological pathogens.
The results of these classifications cause a more comprehensive review in the smaller non vertebrate species. The genetic manipulation of the bacteriological pathogens and the hosts are more easily accomplished with the smaller invertebrate species. The introduction remains restricted to the topic of the review of the distinction of the behaviors of the enterococci in microbial, insect and vertebrate species. The study contains sufficient aspects of the review in order to facilitate the replication of the conditions of the meta- analytic research by other scientists. The research contributes to the body of knowledge by reviewing the distinct models of enterococci infection and the transmission of infection by microbial, insect and vertebrate species.
The tables and the text are consistent in this characteristic of review; however; the inclusion of an abstract would cause the article to be more detailed and explanatory. The conclusions which are reached by the article are those that the aspect of virulence is delineated as a characteristic which is required for the commencement of disease in the hosting or4ganisms. The aspect of the toxins which are created by the bacteriological enterococci in the host environment is exhaustively explored in this study. There do not appear to be any errors in the collection of data or in the citations of the precious research. The manuscript presents some data which had been previously published in addition to new models of enterococci survival and communication.
Conclusion
In my professional judgment, I would accept the manuscript with a detailed abstract. The findings are conclusive however; in my opinion the introduction does not provide sufficient insight into the subject matter. This can probably be attributed to the article being included in a book which is published by the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
