Q1. Exciting Academic Interests
My academic interests are subjects that pique my attention and which I usually devote more time to researching. For example, coding and robotics are two of my academic interests. I can pursue my interests through The Open Curriculum program, which is meant to allow students to construct their programs of study with the help of academic advisers. Open Curriculum, in general, stimulates us students who want more freedom in arranging our course work to develop our talents and interests.
My interest in coding and robotics grew due to the increasing use of artificial intelligence in many fields in today’s world. You will find robots detonating bombs, saving our bombs specialists in case of detonation; in hospitals, robots are used to do surgeries; in industries, robots are used to handle harmful chemicals protecting human beings from the harms that may come as a result of interacting with the substances. Robotics is a branch of artificial intelligence. To participate in building more efficient robots, I have to engage in coding, which helps develop the required software to be embedded on the robots to enable them to perform the designated duties. Pleased with the freedom Open Curriculum presents, I can focus on unfamiliar topics and interests, aiding me to become an all-around student. Robots make work easier hence the interest to embrace their existence and contribution to the human race.
Q2. Things that Bring Joy
Just like other human beings, certain things spark joy in my life. These things vary from individual to individual, depending on the circumstances. I find contentment, satisfaction, and meaning in daily interactions and significant discoveries which touch on work and the surrounding. At school, I love it when each party is actively engaged in delivering their mandate to help keep the academic ball rolling. Tutors are punctual and dedicated to guiding learners willing to study and cooperate with their tutors to make the learning process a success. These collaborative efforts yield results while saving on time and resources. In my area of interest, the saved time is utilized in laboratory research to aid in coming up with powerful robots which can complement human beings in different sectors.
Being associated with problem-solving whenever there is a matter which commands attention is another spark of joy. Helping people get solutions to the issues they encounter is satisfying. Collaboration with other stakeholders to offer solutions to problems affecting people is significant. We ought to all endeavour to be found, offering solutions and not causing the crisis to make the world a better place to live. We all must identify where we are best suited. Whatever we commit to doing, we find joy in it, which touches other people with the ultimate appeal to the parties involved, unlike when people do things because of being coerced.
Q.3 Challenged Perspective
During a presentation on the importance of embracing robotics, I was challenged that they are not worth the attention for replacing human labour causing unemployment since they will be doing the tasks human labourers ought to be doing. Arguments erupted, validating that robots are a threat to humankind’s survival. Though some had good ideas of robots replacing human labour, it was evident that the actual case was robots have come to aid human beings to evade harm caused by incapacitation of human beings in some sectors. Delicateness of matters like surgery, threatening environments like factories emitting harmful chemicals, risky areas like bomb detection and disarming were arguments to refute the narrative. It was proved that robots are human aids and not replacements.
The discussion escalated with opposition and proposers proving their perspectives until it was agreed that there are both advantages and disadvantages of the inclusion of robots in human existence. The benefits were plenty, validating their input and contribution. Though challenged, I had to hold onto my cause because it is the truth and beyond any doubt. At the end of the discussions, we all had a deeper understanding of the role and impact of robots in society.
