Can Nurses Effectively Care for Patients? Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 284

Essay

I agree that needing to determine whether nurses can effectively care for patients without having a spirit of caring is a good question. Ultimately, I believe that the nursing practice itself has stemmed from a nature of caring and it is not possible to be an effective practitioner without thoroughly caring for your patients. True caring allows healthcare professionals to become fully investing in the well-being of their patients, thereby requiring them to do whatever it takes to ensure that they return to proper health. This includes utilizing a nurse’s personal relationship with a patient in addition to medical treatment. When the nurse shows that he or she cares about the patient, his or her attitude towards the healing process improves, which increases the likelihood that the condition while improve. In conclusion, ensuring the health of patients is a combination of personality and practice and it is important to emphasize both equally.

I agree that knowledge of nursing theory is essential to practice, and changes to these theories over time are often evidenced based and beneficial to the field. We should ultimately continue to strive for these changes, because as we continue to interact with patients we build a greater awareness of principles that are effective and are able to discard those that are not. I think that it is an extreme to say that these principles alter daily. Rather, this is a slow change that occurs over time as a consequence of vast amounts of research. It is important to continue the revision process of these theories to ensure that the nursing practice continues to evolve. Since medical knowledge is increasing, it is intuitive that the theories that guide practice are altering as well.
