Reaction Paper

This concert will feature Washburn band and chamber ensembles. In my opinion it expects to a superb production. From my perspective of music dynamics the performers are competent and will deliver their pieces eloquently whether it was vocal or instrumental. They are professional musicians and music audiences across America expect a very high level of performance. Notable selections will include John Williams salute to statue of liberty. This is a phenomenal piece of musical arrangement (Blankenship, 2014).

Tonight, Director Micheal Mapp will lead Washburn University Band into a grand prelude opening, which is believed to be a useful advertising technique. John Williams, a renowned composer as well as Academy- and Grammy Award-winner wrote the lyrics form the opening piece of the music that will be featured tonight in honor of the Statue of Liberty centennial celebration. The organisers hope to show case the best music from the greatest artists around the world.  It is my view point that this concert does not merely show case Chamber music, but brings a great message to music lovers concerning the importance of the Statue of Liberty in America’s history (Blankenship, 2014). For me it is a musical history lesson.

Precisely, if one were to briefly assess the renditions, which are expected to be staged it is clear that when liberty fanfareopens the concert this is more than just a celebration, but a teaching learning strategy. This piece written by Williams purposely for this celebration and being used since 1986 still pays an import role in sensitizing youths towards citizenship transmission and value of country. The composer said that the piece is a patriotic song (Blankenship, 2014). Therefore, this concert reinforces what liberty means as well as giving glimpses of how liberties of some people are violated.

Notable renditions and noteworthy features of this concert are The Honors Woodwind Trio; Benjamin Britten’s “Russian Funeral, which will conclude tonight’s part of the concert. Mapp will again bring together the brands featured in this concert to show case the liberty fanfare which he tried on several occasions to culminate into a huge band symphony. His aim to transfer the oneness image which he believes the statue of liberty signifies to the world. This would be his first attempt in trying to portray this type of music sentiment (Blankenship, 2014). Indeed my impressions regarding this concert being more than just a display of high quality music, but also a cultural explosion of a unique part of America’s heritage.

Significantly, Mapp allows a Brian Hogg’s arrangement to follow his liberty fanfare. This arrangement will consist of “Llwyn Onn’ known as “The Ash Grove”). The sentiments will pour  from  a the tune old Welsh folk song blended with hymns such as “Let All Things Now Living” and “Sent Forth by God’s Blessings” ((Blankenship, 2014, pp.1). Mapp resurrects the sentiments embodies in acknowledging liberty. It would appear that the producers want to recall forcibly the nation’s responsibility for honoring the history that has brought them thus far. This is why my reaction to this concert continues to be one that goes beyond music, but into the depths of American history. Importantly, this rendition will feature contrasting movements indicative of past and present events in this liberty process (Blankenship, 2014).

To end the concert Mapp will bring on a march, Brighton Beach, composed by an American musician. This must be a phenomenal concert and I just cannot wait to see and hear these magnificent renditions.
