Clinical Decision Support Systems, Article Review Example

The article sheds light into the growing use of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS). The research design adopted in this article is particularly suited to solve the problem at hand. The research managed to highlight the important areas that affect the efficiency of a CDSS. The authors have effectively highlighted the role that technology plays in fully integrating an operational CDSS with all stakeholders.

The authors recognize the need for further research into the application and improvements that can be made within management and operational systems in order to realize the full benefits of clinical decision supported systems. Some of the most important facets that have to be incorporated into the CDSS is the patient outcomes as well as the organizational outcome, such as efficiency and cost.

It is important to consider that in order for further research into the development and applicability of CDSS, research and trials have to adopt a randomized controlled approach. Most of the research conducted related to CDSS, including this article, has always focused on clinician decision making and the process of care. However, there is considerable need for focus on the structure of the CDSS as well as the outcomes.
