The children with Specific language impairment (SLI) mentions limited grammatical skills compare to the typical language of their peers. These issues can be demonstrated when two languages switch (i.e. code switching) within sentences. There were 58 Children with or without SLI who were able to produce narratives by using picture books and some conversation samples. The results showed that there wasn’t a considerable difference in the levels of utterances with contexts of elicitation or code switching across age group.
By language of testing interaction, there were specific impact for the testing language, language prominence, and an important dominance. When English dominant children has been tested in non dominant language (Spanish) then they demonstrated more code switching compare to the children of Spanish dominant who were tested in their weak language English. SLI children did not display more code switching compare to their peers. the findings in the article presented that children with SLI can be able to use grammatical code switching despite of the language difficulties. In the socio-cultural framework when the home language is not supported socially then analysis recommend that code switching is sensitive to linguistics features. The cases presented above states that children can abstain from changing to the home language, even if it is their principal language. It is concluded that in the current research, the SLI children, did not indicate the code switching patterns that were quantitatively differ from the peers of typical language development (TLD). With the code switching behavior the children with SLI are able to mix with two languages and deficit in the knowledge of CS rules and regulations did not explained, in spite of distinct grammatical issues in each language.
Point of View
As we noticed from the brief review of this article that cross linguistic and pragmatics of multilingual research and sociolinguistics are in their beginning. It has been identified that in the last two decades, most of the world’s population is either bilingual or multilingual; it has also been recognized that the research about language and communication impairments should consider multilingual speakers’ ability to speak different languages a skill. On the development of language of multilingual children has been growing very fast. There is a problem regarding the children that and when the child strengthens the representation of other languages that they are learning, as compared to a singular system that combines the two.
Code switching can be appealing between a variety of words, sentences, clauses and speak turns. It has been proven by the research that in contextual sensitive way, a two year old bilingual student can switch from one language to another. There is growing proof that code switching is the tradition of multilingual children. For instance, in the example where Spanish – English preschool bilingual children showed each child in the sample produce utterances that include intrasentential code switching, as well as over 40 percent of multiple words utterances including intrasentential code switching. The average for code switch of utterances was bigger than the single language speaker Spanish or English utterances. Study shows that in this population the deficiency of code switching can be a sign of delay in language or intrinsic disorder.
