Computers have dramatically changed our everyday lives in an extremely short time span. Indeed, in addition to the way the internet has revolutionized the commercial sphere, the advent of social media has personalized our exchanges with individuals from around the world and unlocked creativity in ways previously unimagined. After graduating from college, I pursued a number of professional opportunities related to entertainment and computers. In the end, I wanted to integrate my valuable experience in these fields via the medium of computers. A second bachelor’s degree in computer science plays an indispensable role in achieving this goal.
I graduated from UCLA with a BS in psychobiology in 2004. After graduating with solid grades (if you graduated with any honors- e.g., cum laude you should insert that here), I pursued work in the entertainment industry and quickly earned recognition as an actor. In addition, I freelanced as a graphic designer and founded a start-up company (serving as the Managing Director) for the past few years (there needs to be more detail here regarding the company and its operational goals). In order to run a successful business, I taught myself the basics of graphic design and web programming functions. Through this arduous but rewarding process, I realized that while I enjoyed working with computers, I needed a deeper theoretical grounding in the topic to be a successful entrepreneur This realization drove my interest to pursue a second bachelor degree in computer science.
I realize that my interest in computers was connected with the need express myself. Indeed, I love the creative potential that the industry entails; from multi-media to human computer interaction and software development, the creative possibilities are endless. I have always considered myself a “corporate artist” and I was finally in a field that I enjoyed as much as film production. Working in the film and television industry for the past decade has given me a knowledge that most biology and computer science majors rarely have the opportunity to experience; my goal is to combine my vast work experience with computer technology to find a niche that sparks greater creativity and interest.
Indeed, realizing my desire to learn more about computer technology and finding ways to integrate work experiences into one profession are the main reasons for my desire to seek a second bachelor’s degree in computer science. My overall goal is to leverage computer technology to create marketing systems that run more efficiently than current systems. Artificial intelligence and human computer interaction is another research subject which arouses my curiosity. I am eager to find out more about the creative research being done on these unique methodologies, including designing of the interface. A master’s degree in computer science is a next possible step.
I strongly believe that one must truly have a passion for his/her work in order to be successful. As someone still exploring my copious interests, I will continue to pursue my interests without fearing failure or being reckless. From graduating with a BS in psychobiology to excelling as an actor; from developing in the film and television industry to freelancing as a graphic designer, I have tilted full circle to pursue a second bachelor’s degree in computer science. Overall, I believe that every individual should seek a path of challenge and reward; the intellectual journey , although difficult, will not only led one to learn more about the world, but perhaps more importantly, about oneself.
