COVID’s Hidden Toll, Movie Review Example

In the film COVID’S Hidden Toll, immigrant and undocumented laborers’ struggle is the key focus. The film exposes the hidden realities facing low-wage immigrant workers in the US. Most of these immigrants trafficked into America without any documentation. The undocumented laborers meet severe conditions, including sexual harassment at their workplaces and police brutality. In the film, the undocumented immigrants and black Americans are both subjected to police violence; these groups face hostility from the police and regular harassment. The police department’s hostility towards undocumented immigrants and black Americans is due to the increasing numbers of these groups in the US. The attitude comes from the deeply ingrained racist stereotypes in the police departments. Police suspect that undocumented immigrants and black Americans possess an inherent tendency for criminal activities. This presumption has made the police have strict surveillance on the undocumented immigrants and restricting their movements.

The US’s COVID pandemic has exposed deep fissures and so many failures in protecting the vulnerable communities living low lives. The Film the COVID’S Hidden Toll exposes how numerous frameworks on how these low live individuals have to choose between their lives and jobs. The film reveals the hidden realities facing low-wage immigrants and how these vulnerable individuals are dying from the coronavirus at a disproportionate rate. The workers have no mandatory COVID protections, and they are not safe against the potential infections at their workplaces. In the film, in the food production companies, workers who are in the most cases the sole providers of families are not given essentials to protecting themselves; the workers have to continue working despite the lack of the protection measures for them to provide for their families who are at a high risk of conducting the virus. The vulnerable communities covered in the film basing on their wages can only afford to take their students to low-level schools; most of these academic centers the affordable their health centers have no proper protection measures in curbing the virus, therefore, making the students be at high risks of being infected by the virus.

In the film the Innocent Voices, there is a civil war in El Salvador raging between the Salvadoran Army and the guerillas. The film illustrates how children’s resilience and ability to sustain their humanity under challenging moments and great losses. In the film, the Innocent Voices Children suffer the most terrible losses; they end up killed or forcefully recruited into the Salvadorian army during these harsh times. Chava, an eleven-year-old kid, living with her mother and two siblings, illustrates his resilience and ability to sustain humanity when he was the houseman after his father flew to the United States upon the start of the war forcefully. While his mother is at work during the war, Chava manages to save his siblings when gunfire rips through their delicate house. The eleven-year-old Chava lands a part-time job working on a bus to support his low-income family; he gives his mother all the money he earns so that she can take care of them.  In the film, the maker uses music and songs to convey innocence, resistance, and radical love during the war. Music and songs used in the film Innocent Voices criticize the film authorities who abduct kids upon reaching twelve years of age to join the army. In the film, low-income families are under siege by terror; twelve-year-old boys are away from the classroom, lined up in front of their peers, and taken away by the government. In the film, a little boy  exposes  clinching to every man who enters their house and calls them “Daddy.” The father of the young child dies in the war. Another example in the film is when young boys are putting flyers in every home, informing them about the next day’s recruitment.  The music exposes the government in a critical way on how they use the children as soldiers instead of taking care of them.
