Current Event Article: Teven J Heine 2nd Edition, Article Review Example

This current event is about a woman who is poor and struggling and sees a lady in a fur coat and a Cadillac automobile. The woman has 100 dollar bills just hanging out that she proceeds to drop. The psychological dilemma is should Michelle keep the money or give it back “Good willed individuals may choose either to return the wallet or to keep the money depending on the ethical perspective that they use to frame ethical question.” (Andre and Velasquez). Returning the money will give her will, compassion, empathy and good graces with the God she believes in but keeping the money may mean whether Michelle will be able to eat or have shelter for the night.

Gilligan states that ethical, moral and just decisions are based on both a justice and a care perspective. The care perspective puts emphasis on compassion. The justice incidence puts emphasis on what is right and wrong ethically and morally.

There are three levels of maturity of a young lad or lassie, young adult and adult. People mature at different levels at different ages and may not be able to distinguish right from wrong at a very early age. As they grow older they do know right from wrong. With a certain level of maturity women tend to be more caring towards their family ties and friends. Men just seem to drift off with a non-charismatic attitude. So if Michelle were a man would she have simply kept the money from the woman in the nice Cadillac? Not necessarily so. It depends on a person’s maturity level and value and belief system which is taught at a very young age. It depends on if the person has a conscience and can live with their choices. “Babies are the only true form of decent and pure immunity from bad conscience choices.” (60 Minutes).
