The authors took a stand by highlighting Huntington’s warning, which emerged into a clash of civilizations after the cold war ended. Cultural pluralism was then used as a mechanism for promoting world peace in a social environment encircled with animosity. Precisely, the authors perceived cultural pluralism as dysfunction related to knowledge society whereby intercultural knowledge evolved being disseminated with the boundaries of an ecosystem consisting of mutual understanding and respect (Bakry & Al-Ghamdi, 2011).

Efforts at resolving cultural pluralism issues were offered to give readers an overview of international strategies developed to address revolving irregularities within the ecosystem. United Nations (UN) 2001 resolution on dialogue among civilizations was cited as a reference. UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 2001 cultural diversity declaration was also used as valuable references. Rabat 2005 conference on international cultures and Madrid 2008 world conference addressing cultural diversity from their civilization world view was embraced (Bakry & Al-Ghamdi, 2011).

In the second section authors engaged in an intellectual discourse advancing perspectives on how cultural pluralism can function within the context of a knowledge society ecosystem framework. Consequently, a five STOPE domain was organized contained in strategy, technology, organization, people and the environment, inclusive of places people interact in intercultural knowledge activities. They concluded that the framework was a very useful as a peace treaty and global development strategy for future generations.

Personal opinion

As it relates to United States of America the entire world patterns their knowledge society from the cultural diversity predispositions contained within its geographic/social environment. Many nations, especially, across the Arab ecosystem feel inferior to the extent of thinking that their knowledge society is lagging behind. However, this could merely be emerging from a world culture imposition of differences pertaining to developed, developing and underdeveloped paradigms. Importantly, the five STOPE domain is already active in America since strategy, technology and organization are embraced when challenges of cultural diversity surface within the society. Researchers get to work investigating cultural pluralism with the aim of designing framework consistent with American values system and knowledge society (Lord, 2008).

Relationship to class concepts

In class, concepts related to cultural diversity, which have been referenced from time to time embrace differences between cultural pluralism and monocultural societies. People living in Arab nations where the authors of this review article were born function in a monocultural environment. United States of America expresses cultural pluralism in every aspect of its social interactions. Hence, healthcare workers have to cultivate cultural competence for eficient practice. However, cultural competence goes beyond knowledge of a person’s culture. According to the article cultural competence means development of a knowledge society emerging from a social ecosystem compatible with values that would promote peace and global development. Importantly, if people could appreciate each other’s religious, ethnic, gender and political cultural differences world peace can be sustained. Since world affairs is a reflection of individual consciousness then health care professionals are innovators in the strategy aimed at organizing technological developments that are culturally diverse, but comprehensively intended to link people as one in cultural pluralism (Amory & Adams, 2003).
