Faisal Alhamad, Personal Statement Example

I had strong artistic inclinations since childhood, but now I realize that to understand how meaningful they are for me, I had to go to study business to college. As soon as the first year of studies finished, I realized how unfit I am for an image of a businessperson, and began pondering over the topic of career change until it is too late. I have always been creative by nature, but felt no inclination to writing poems, becoming an actor or a painter. However, I knew I have one passion – being visually creative; even during the lectures, I was drawing sophisticated letters to observe the intricate interconnection and interplay of curves I could invent on the paper. To become fully confident in the need for the change of the study course, I needed some push, and received it during the study of Photoshop in 2007 where I found out how my design inclinations can be technically supported by the computer software.

After finish the course of Photoshop, I could not help thinking about the architectural field of studies; I believe that the artistic spirit I possess will enable me to innovate, bring the change to the surrounding world, and make the environment more beautiful. I have always felt that I am flexible during drawing, and my feeling of space and constraints in spatial and temporal issues cannot limit my imagination. I have much to share, but I feel that I am unable to do this without professional preparation which I seek from the New School Architecture and Design (NSAD). I am sure studies in this school will empower me to create new solutions for homes and office buildings, for city and rural infrastructure, etc. I am eager to study and explore the world around me in architectural terms, but I need guidance, supervision, and advice from experienced professionals. Hence, the desire to enroll to NSAD is dictated primarily by the urge to make the most of my skills, interests, hobbies, and passions in life.

I am very interested in construction as a way of providing people with alternative visions of living and working spaces in the modern period of time. The majority of people are not used to modern solutions in terms of sustainable architecture, innovative construction and design methods, etc. I would like to give these all to them for the sake of making the world more perfect, more modern, and more comfortable for human existence. I see the power in architecture in terms of assisting or preventing people’s lives – sometimes the buildings around me get my whole attention, and I love to see them from different views. In case i studied in NSAD, I would be able to change them for the sake of giving more pleasure and comfort to its residents, or create new styles in architecture that would be instilled in centuries, and would become the global cultural heritage.

I am confident in my skills and forces, since I have recognized architecture as my only passion and interest in the professional life I see for myself. Therefore, I am ready to give the most effort, diligence, and integrity to my studies in NSAD to become one of the most outstanding architects at the national and international level. I know that NSAD is a very reputable and prestigious school in which the skillful, professional, accredited, and talented tutors contribute to the creation and stimulation of the best specialists in the field. Thus, I want to become one of them to contribute my vision of urban design, and to become more empowered to introduce a feasible change. I am a proponent of experimental education fostered in NSAD, and I know that the environment created by NSAD specialists contributes the quickest self-realization, experimentation, and self-actualization of daring students willing to make a difference.

I would highly appreciate the opportunity to study architecture in NSAD, since it is the only opportunity for me to touch the world of innovation, boldness, and creativity in design of any kind. I believe that NSAD is the heart of novelty in architectural solutions, and its specialists practice innovative critical thinking and acting approaches to instigate the development of students as specialists doing feasible things every day. I want to join the world of NSAD to reveal my vocation, to realize my calling, and to become an accredited specialist delivering pleasure and joy to people entering the 21^st century in terms of design.
