Functional Behavior, Article Critique Example

Introduction to the special issue on the behavior analysis and treatment of drug addiction by Kenneth, John & Stephen in the Journal of applied behavior. This article looks at the use of contingency management to facilitate the cure of addiction. The article tries to provide an insightful review of the idea of using this concept in the treatment of addiction especially in drugs (Kenneth et al, 2008). The article also explores the use of contingency management and notes the limited use of this concept despite the effectiveness associated with it. The article aims to light the use of operant treatments in the treatment of addiction using behavior modifications.

This concept is useful in the classroom setup as it assists in overcoming the problems of addiction. It is noteworthy that the use of contingency management is essential in the elimination of addiction problems (Anne & Car, 2005). The adoption of the approach facilitates an effective and more result oriented path in the cure elimination of addiction problems and the same can be extended to other fields. It also provides an elaborate way to reinforce abstinence in individuals with the problem of addiction.

The article provides an extensive platform in the application of contingency management aimed at modification of behavior with an aim of treating addiction. The implication is that the use of contingency management is a viable form of treatment for addiction (2001). The use of other related literature in support of this issue is well elaborated in the article. The presentation of the issues in the articled follows a concise and logical order (Stephen, Kenneth & Sarah, 2007). Despite these, the article fails to further provide for the details involved in the application of cognitive management in relation to the use of other intervention programs and only provides for a theoretical application. However the provision of further research on the issue clarifies the non exhaustive nature of the article.
