Georgetown University, Personal Statement Example

I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for admission at Georgetown University, and for the opportunity to tell you about myself and my reasons for applying. I am interested in a career in health sciences, and I am confident that I would thrive in the educational environment at this esteemed institution. On a personal level I am a positive, upbeat and gregarious individual, and I believe such traits make me well-suited for a career in the field of health care. Along with my personal qualities I bring a solid academic track record; I am currently enrolled in honors classes and am maintaining a strong grade point average. In addition to my core studies I am involved in a number of community service projects, and I also play for my school’s volleyball team. I believe this combination of academic and social activities and accomplishments has served to make me a well-rounded individual.

What interests me the most about Georgetown University’s Health Sciences programs is the educational model embraced by the institution, which combines an emphasis on academic achievement and core studies with a wider-ranging focus on the practical implications of working in health care. I was especially intrigued by the notion that ethics and compassion are considered to be fundamental components of a complete and balanced education as espoused by the curapersonalis framework. This philosophy is exemplified by the research conducted by Professor Abigail Marsh that found the links between brain structures and a propensity to be organ donors. Organ donation is an area of particular interest to me, and I was intrigued to learn of this physiological basis for such a personality type. It is this kind of research that makes Georgetown University my first choice of schools, and if I am selected for admission in the regular decision round I intend to accept the offer.  Thank you for your consideration.
