Globalization’s Reality – Who makes our toys and why? Is it bad for Vietnam to produce our toys? Would it be better for the USA if we produced our own toys?

As a consumer buying goods in American shops and stores – how is globalization affecting your life today? Give a couple of examples of high ticket items you have purchased or are thinking of buying. Where were they made? How did that affect the price of the item?

Globalization is outsourcing to other countries and is taking away money from the United States economy. This is the main reason we are in a recession as we speak. Globalization does lower the prices of some items because of the cheap labor costs in other countries but it surely doesn’t seem so when you go to the stores to shop especially the malls. Shirts that used to be made in other countries that could be bought for $15.00 are now selling for the price of $40.00 because the oversea workers have become smarter and are charging more for their labor. So ask why is the United States still using outsourcing? Because of the kickbacks the politicians receive from outsourcing. This is not fair to the American consumer and not fair to the American Government’s recession problem.

As an employee who has worked for several years how has globalization affected your job salary so far or your job prospects over the coming years? If you have not yet spent a few years working, describe how globalization has affected the jobs or livelihood of your parents?  

The globalization did not affect the salaries of my parents much but are affecting the bottom line of finding jobs in the United States and the rates of which we have to work. There is no such thing as quitting one job today and finding another next week like it used to be when the economy of the United States was strong. Unemployment rates are at their highest ever now. People are losing their homes and going into foreclosure and forced to either move in with family or rent in undesirable neighborhoods.

A Good Provider is One Who Leaves – What would you do if you grew up in an underdeveloped country? What are the forces that push/pull these workers to go overseas? Is it good for their country if they go work overseas? Is it good for their families if they go and work overseas? Are these workers any different from Mexican workers coming to the United States to work?

Think of the degree or profession you are pursuing at Pierce College? Can ANY part of it be outsourced to India or China? How will that affect you? Will the salary you are to make be affected by salaries in similar professions in other countries?  Things can always be outsourced to India or China but is it effective? No it is no longer an effective means to outsource. It is even difficult to understand when the outsourced workers call to the United States. This is very frustrating. The United States needs to halt outsourcing right now and keep the money in the country and give jobs to its citizens.

Finally, do you think globalization is to go away anytime soon? IF yes, describe how. If NO, what can you do NOW to prepare yourself to face its pressure? These are complex questions. They can’t be answered in a sentence or two. I encourage you to use examples from the articles to support your arguments. Globalization will not go away anytime soon because of the political kickbacks politicians receive from the outsourcing. This is proof the government is not concerned for the United States citizens or for their poor credit ranking now. The United States used to have A+ credit rating years ago until they started to overdo the outsourcing. When the outsourcing was never positive for the states it should have been halted. However, I firmly believe the United States will stay in a recession for another ten years because of the poor choices the government is making.
