Health Care Administration & Healthcare Informatics, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 319

Essay

The field of healthcare has always interested me; however it is more of the administrative duties rather than the hands on approach of a front line care worker. The information and storage measures of the medical profession is one of the largest growing industries, because the mere importance and amount of information that is involved. Not only is there a great need for impeccable medical patient records, but also a host of other type of informational needs of the hospital or clinic. There are a number of laws and regulations that are required of the medical profession to ensure that all data is kept confidential. Special laws, such as HIPPA have changed the way that medical records are stored, shared and released which requires a great deal of work and expertise (Lussier, Butte & Hunter, 2010). Health care administration or the maintaining, planning and running of the hospital or clinic is another area that is of great interest. Again, it is another job that is more of an indirect part of the medical field, however essential to the best care possible to patients. Most people do not realize the amount of planning and requirement’s that must be upheld to ensure that a hospital or doctor’s office is managed appropriately. Along with the day to day operations there are a number of areas that an individual with a Master’s Degree can pursue.

Hospital administration, chief information officers and managers are all required to provide detailed development of schedules, supplies, maintenance, human resources and general needs are met on a daily basis. Without all of those areas coming together, the medical profession would fail as a team. It takes a great approach of many people and departments to run a successful operation and that is why I feel so strongly about the administrative positions.
