Strategic Planning

The company’s long-term goals revolve around ensuring high-quality care and all-around access to maternal health for the community. The facility aims to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality rates in the community by fifty percent in its first five years of operation. Additionally, by the end of its first five years, the center aims to have assessment reports averaging above the ninety-fifth percentile for quality of care provided by the staff. Additionally, the facility targets to transition the community to a hundred percent healthy births, meaning all births in the sixth year of operation should be conducted with the help of qualified healthcare workers or in healthcare facilities.

Tactical Planning

The facility must collaborate with local health authorities to create an awareness program that can increase access to healthcare and reduce maternal mortality rates. That involves reaching out to the local authorities, creating an awareness proposal, securing funding for the approved campaign, and executing the plan. The best awareness campaign would be a community-based program involving both door-to-door and event-based awareness training programs for the current case. This program should educate the community on the importance of continued access to healthcare and monitoring services before, during, and after delivery.

Once the awareness program is up and running, the facility administrators should devise a performance analysis and tracking system where performance gaps are identified quickly, and requisite training offered. The guideline for this system should be the World Health Organization service delivery standards, including the provision of routine postnatal care, timely interventions in cases of pre-eclampsia or eclampsia, and prompt intervention in cases of postpartum hemorrhage. Aligning the facility’s standards to the international service delivery standards can help reduce maternal mortality rates and maintain high operational standards throughout the facility.

Resource Planning

The birthing center requires a registered nurse, certified nurse midwives, community liaisons, and doulas. Additional non-procedural staff includes a receptionist, cleaners, gardeners, and security staff. Material requirements include beds, couches, delivery baths, hand-washing stations, mats and rugs, exercise balls, and sanitary equipment such as water heaters, towels, cotton wool, and disinfectant. Additionally, the birthing center should be located in a spacious building with enough birthing rooms to cater for the projected maximum number of patients to be served at any one time. Other comforts such as a television set for entertainment, a music system, and a meditation room may be provided depending on the availability of funds. A common room that can host exercise activities or other large group activities is also necessary to enable the staff to conduct pre-delivery and post-delivery activities effectively.

Operational Planning

The birthing center will operate the internal activities in tandem with the community awareness program. The operational planning will cater to the community awareness program with the internal performance analysis and tracking system requiring little scheduling due to its ongoing nature. The community awareness program will run for three weeks with a hundred and twenty-day wait period before another three-week campaign. This means there will be four campaigns every year until the data indicates that the objective of a hundred percent correctly supervised births has been realized. The three-week program will feature an opening event with free screenings for pregnant women, a door-to-door awareness campaign lasting for two weeks, a closing event with a sign-on open day and recognition of the most recent successful births. The program aims to increase awareness and demonstrate the birth center’s effectiveness to the public.
