I agree that pursing the DNP project is an important component of the DNP program. As DNP nurses, we are expected to positively contribute to evidence-based knowledge regarding general practice or specialized knowledge(American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015). While this process requires a large extent of critical thinking, it is important to consider that these practices positively contribute to not only the nursing practice as a whole, but to patient care as well. I believe that understanding the research process is important because this will help us not only be able to think more critically as nurses, but to be better prepared for our future careers. Completing the DNP project will provide us with the opportunity to enter a variety of career paths and to explore our interests.

I agree that the nurse practitioner could play an essential role in decreasing hospital readmission rates. Since we often spend a lot of time with our patients, it would be ideal for us to incorporate education into our discussions with our patients (Whitcomb, 2012). In doing so, we could help optimize care by ensuring that patients have the knowledge necessary to remain compliant with recommendations. This will also positively contribute to the reduction of health care costs for individuals that subscribe to Medicaid and Medicare. While the question you pose in your description is fascinating, it would benefit from being worded differently. Starting the question with the word “should” makes your question answerable with a simple yes or no. Instead, it may be better to ask “how” or “why” to make the question more open-ended and operate in a manner that could provide nurses with recommendations in a qualitative manner. A literature review could be used to answer a yes or no question, but more investigative research is needed to answer one that asks how or why.
